Agent-based sketch recognition

چکیده

A technique for the classification and ‘understanding’ of ‘child-like’ sketches is explained. Using a live pen-based input device, sketches of animals are classified using our system: SIVA (Sketch Understanding Via Agents). We separate the task into three sub-problems: Sketch segmentation, segment matching and a contextual conflict-resolution system. A successful sketch segmentation method involving corner detection using the perpendicular distance from a chord to the line in addition to pen speed is shown and evaluated. A grammatical curve description is then used to match fragments of the sketch to model fragment descriptions in a database. Finally, we discuss a method to verify the identified fragments and recognise the subject of the sketch by examining the compatibility between the fragments found in the sketch. We achieve this using an agent-based search of the sketch – agents representing particular features are ‘released onto’ the sketch and interact with one-another and sketch fragments, and in attempting to achieve their own goals achieve recognition of the sketch.

Integrating Agents, Ontologies, and Web Services to Build Flexible Sketch-based Applications

We present an approach based on web services, for building open and dynamic agent societies aimed at hand-drawn sketch recognition. The approach exploits ontologies to enable agents to agree on message semantics and service purposes, standard web services languages to represent agent interaction protocols in a suitable way to be exchanged and handled by agents and web services to expose low-lev...

An Agent-Based and Context-Oriented Approach to Symbol Recognition in Diagrammatic Drawings

In the last two decades, one new technology, that of agent-based systems, and one emerging research discipline, that of on-line recognition of hand-drawn diagrams, have gained wide attention and consensus. Since the application of the agent technology to disciplines where, traditionally, more standard approaches are adopted, usually leads to valuable and interesting results, we propose an agent...

An agent-based framework for sketched symbol interpretation

Recognizing hand-sketched symbols is a definitely complex problem. The input drawings are often intrinsically ambiguous, and require context to be interpreted in a correct way. Many existing sketch recognition systems avoid this problem by recognizing single segments or simple geometric shapes in a stroke. However, for a recognition system to be effective and precise, context must be exploited,...

An Agent-Based Paradigm for Free-Hand Sketch Recognition

Natural interfaces for CAD applications based on sketching devices have been explored to some extent. Former approaches used techniques to perform the recognition process like invariant features extracted with image analysis techniques as neural networks, statistical learning or fuzzy logic. Currently, more flexible and robust techniques are being introduced, which consider other information as...

Solving Ambiguities for Sketch-Based Interaction in Mobile Environments

The diffusion of mobile devices and the development of their services and applications are connected with the possibility to communicate anytime and anywhere according to a natural approach, which combines different modalities (speech, sketch, etc.). A natural communication approach, such as sketch-based interaction, frequently produces ambiguities. Ambiguities can arise in sketch recognition p...
